Air India Flight Delayed 8 Hours in Stifling Heat, Passengers Faint

Many passengers on the Air India flight from New Delhi to San Francisco (AI183) endured horrendous conditions on the 31st. Flights were delayed by an eight-hour period, and reportedly had the plane not having air conditioning. The delay, which occurred in conjunction with an extreme heatwave in Delhi in which temperatures reached close to 50 degrees Celsius, caused certain passengers becoming faint.

Journalist Shweta Punj took to the social media site X to voice her displeasure.
The passengers were said to be forced to take the plane and then wait for hours with no AC. This situation was resolved following the fainting of a few passengers which led to them being removed from the plane at the Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Air India responded to the complaint, saying it was sorry and vowing to rectify the problem and aid customers. “We are truly sorry for the inconvenience caused,” Air India stated. They assured the passengers that the team would be working to resolve the problem and will be able to assist in any way needed.

The incident comes on the heels of a recent delay for the Air India flight from Mumbai to San Francisco. This week, a tech issue resulted in an 18-hour delay on the route, which resulted in an individual suffering from illness. The airline offered hotel accommodations as well as rescheduling alternatives and snacks to passengers affected by the delay.
