Gautam Gambhir Set To Replace Rahul Dravid As India Head Coach: Report

Gautam Gambhir is reportedly ready to assume the role of head coach for the Indian men’s cricket team. Gambhir has become a household name in Indian cricket, thanks to his successful stint as mentor of the Indian Premier League 2024 team. Board of Control for Cricket in India was also interested in other IPL coaches, like Stephen Fleming, Andy Flower and some Australian big names for the position of Indian head coach. But it seems that Gambhir is ahead of everyone else.

Gambhir was mentioned as KKR had a dominant performance at the IPL league stage in 2024. They finished as No. 1 side. The Knight Riders won the championship a few matches later when they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad. Gambhir had an extended chat with BCCI Secretary Jay Shah after the final. The content of their conversation is not known but the visals have fueled speculation.

A report from India claims that Gambhir will replace Dravid in the role of head coach for Team India. Gambhir, who recently became KKR’s mentor and left his position with Lucknow Super Giants (another IPL team he joined in 2022 as a coach), is now set to replace Dravid.

The BCCI is reportedly considering Dravid as his successor, despite the fact that the ex-India opener has no experience in coaching a national team or IPL. His role this year, leading KKR’s IPL victory, was enough to convince them.

BCCI received more than 3000 applications, some of which were fakes, such as a phony ‘Sachin’ Tendulkar, Narendra Modi, and Amit Shah. Interviews with shortlisted candidates are likely to begin soon by the board, led by the Cricket Advisory Committee.
